When we create a project, we often need to design certain elements to make it feel like our own property. Sometimes it's a logo or images based on simple templates for universal use. There are easy tools online to accomplish these goals. Canva is the most effective solution to design problems. It doesn't matter what service you use within Canva. It can be for designing new graphics for social networks, a presentation, or even an invitation to an event.
Sometimes we have some complications when using online tools. However, with these tips, you'll improve your designs and allow yourself to be more creative, organized, and save time.
Canva started around 2007 when Melanie Perkins was studying at the University of Western Australia. She realized she needed an online tool to create school yearbooks here. Cliff Obrecht, co-founder of Canva, acquired a loan and a computer to start their project, Fusion Books. They were honestly not sure what the result of this would be. Fortunately, it served as learning in different areas and processes requiring their own company. This has allowed Fusion Book to remain very large. It is one of Australia's largest school yearbook publishers, allowing them to expand to France and New Zealand. Melania and Cliff realized their project had much more potential than just school yearbooks. So, they decided to carry out this new vision by turning it into what we now know as Canva.
Melanie is now one of the youngest founders in the world, running the billion-dollar company, Canva.
Today Canva has a vast team of people who come from many different paths. Together, they create an image composition and graphic design tool that is easy to use and available for anybody and anywhere. Canva is accessible on your mobile device along with your desktop.
Design friction is the biggest problem in the creative world, and it's only getting worse. As we rely more heavily on technology, we're losing our ability to create beautiful things by hand. That is why apps like Canva that help you develop graphics seem to be working hard to solve this problem. They have created a platform that makes it easy for anyone, regardless of skill level, to create beautiful designs. The best part is that app users don't have to worry about the technical stuff.
At gardenpatch, we have been thinking about reducing design friction for a long time and have learned a lot over the years. We've also got plenty of feedback from our users. As a result, we have learned some really interesting things! Let us share them with you!
1. Use the correct dimensions for your image. The first step to reducing design friction is to choose the correct dimensions for your image. If you're looking for a social media header, remember most platforms will require you to keep your image at a certain width (usually around 1,000 pixels wide). If you're designing on Canva, they have a handy tool that can calculate the correct dimension for any image. You will just need to select "dimensions" from the menu. Once you've selected an image, you'll see what size it is in pixels. You can adjust this by clicking on "edit" and then changing the width or height.
2. Ensure that your images are high-quality, clear, and crisp. One of the most common things that cause design friction is images. If the image is fuzzy or pixelated, it can be hard to tell what it's supposed to be. Clean images will help your viewers focus on the message you're trying to convey rather than being distracted by the quality of your image. If you're using stock images from the internet, make sure they have been properly licensed for commercial use. Make sure the text surrounding your image is readable. You may want to increase its size or choose a different font to ensure visibility.
3. Use the right colors, fonts, and graphics to make your design stands out from the crowd.
For example, if you are designing a business card, you need to make an impression to make sure your brand stands out from the crowd. It's also a great way to get your potential clients to notice your business and remember it later. However, designing a business card that works can be tricky. You must consider many things when designing a business card to convey what your company does effectively. Your design will establish if your business card ends up being just another piece of paper in the garbage bin.

To add a watermark, click on the "edit" button next to your canvas and click the "add watermark" button in the top right corner of the menu. You can type in whatever text or image you'd like, such as your name and website URL. Watermarking is a great way to add personal flair to your designs. For example, if you've created the design, adding your name with a watermark will help ensure that people give you credit when they share it. It's common practice for others to add a line of text that says "thanks" or "link back."
5. Make sure you have copyright before publishing anything online. That way, if anyone uses it without permission, you can take legal action against them for copyright infringement.
6. If possible, choose an appropriate license for your work. Then people know exactly what kind of permissions they need to use it for whatever purpose they may have in mind (for example, commercial or non-commercial use).
7. Try using the whole program of Canva when designing graphics. It allows users to create amazing designs without having any design experience whatsoever!
8. Use the search bar at the top of the page for quick results. For example, you can search for specific words (like "dog" or "coffee") or categories (like "Halloween" or "food").
9. If you type something like "#happybirthday" into the search bar, Canva will pull up all images containing that hashtag in their title or description. The images might not be exactly what you were looking for but could still be useful nonetheless! It is also a great way to see other designs and gather ideas for your project.
10. Use filters on either side of your area to help narrow your search results. For example, if you want an image with cats sitting on couches for a blog post about cat furniture trends, click on "cats" under "animals" > "pets" and then click on "sitting" under "activities">
11. Use templates from Canva's library of free design elements. They're already sized correctly for print and web, so you don't have to worry about the format process! In addition, they have countless designs you can use as inspiration for your projects! Use templates whenever possible! It's hard to beat a template's convenience when working on a project in Canva. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel! You can edit the pictures or the font to make "the design your vibration.”
12. If you want to create something really unique, try combining two different fonts or colors into one template.
Then, create a style guide based on those two elements and apply them to your project. This can add depth and eye-catching attention. You can also use this trick when creating logos for businesses. Think about what your brand is about, and try to find a color that best represents that idea.
13. If you're printing on paper or other materials like cardboard or fabric, check out the File Prep Page. Preview your work so all your colors and designs are laid out in format and are ready before they go into production!
14. Save your work. It's essential to back up your work on the computer. To ensure you don't lose any files, you should always copy them to an external hard drive or save them to a cloud service. That way, even if something happens to your computer and you lose all of your files, you'll have copies in another location. When building your project, it is important to save your work so you can return to it. Nothing is more frustrating than having to start all over.
You can keep your documents safe by saving them to a hard drive or USB drive. You can also save them to the cloud, which means they will be stored on a remote server, not your computer. If you put your work in the cloud, make sure you encrypt it first so that nobody can access it if they get hold of your password.
15. If you don't see what you need, you can create your own template on Canva! You can do so by clicking "new template" from the bottom left corner of your screen and then start building away! Experiment with different fonts and sizes of text and pictures. The creation is part of the fun on Canva.
16. Be patient. Canva is designed for people who love art and design. It is also a great support to individuals with no experience. Sometimes things might not work exactly how they did last time. However, we promise it will improve with time as you continue to use Canva's products!
17. Make sure there is plenty of whitespace.
Whitespace is the space between text and images, a key design component. It helps to create a balance between your content and the graphics you use to complement it. The more whitespace you have, the easier it becomes for your reader to focus on what you're trying to say. On the other hand, if there's too much going on in the design, it can be difficult for readers to understand what's important.
If you're using Canva for this purpose, there are several ways you can add more whitespace. White space is your friend. It makes things look clean, organized, and professional. It helps users focus on what they're looking at without being distracted by other elements.
If you're struggling with design friction, consider reducing the amount of text on your page, moving some of it off to the side, or even removing it entirely. Want to make it easier for your audience to digest your content? Make sure there is plenty of whitespace. It can be vertical or horizontal, but it's important because it helps your reader focus on what matters most.
It also helps when you're designing a page. For example, make sure you don't crowd too many elements together. This will make it harder for the reader to focus on what you want them to see and do.
